Broadcast Journalism

Live Broadcasts

I have had several experiences working with our live broadcast production crew, KnightTV Live. Even though I have never taken the introduction class for broadcasting, I have still been able to aid the crew in multiple ways and gain valuable experience throughout my four years in the program.

Jobs I've done include operating cameras, helping with the set-up and clean-up of equipment, collecting in-game statistics for anchors to use, and also going on-air as the sideline reporter for halftime interviews with coaches and mid-game analysis during competitions for football, basketball and swim and dive. I have also operated cameras and used personal experience with the sport to provide anchor commentary during multiple track meets held at Prospect.

Broadcast and Podcast Stories

While I am the editor-in-chief of our print newspaper in an official capacity, I still contribute to our broadcast program whenever possible. This often comes in the form of discussions with our Executive Producer concerning stories that would be better in a broadcast or podcast format. In addition, communicating heavily with broadcast reporters in order to effectively add links and QR codes to video stories in our print newspaper is a must to effectively promote the content on all of our media platforms.

I have also utilized the podcasting medium to experiment with several podcast reviews for our podcast channel, KnightVoices, experimenting and learning the software of Adobe Premiere Pro in the process. I have also used this editing experience to help create commercials for the cross country team's meets to be shown on the morning announcements, as seen below.
